Center for Information Technologies and Networks Introduction

Center for Information Technologies and Networks plans, designs, manages and operates networks of University, information systems, and so on.

Though we are working a lot places where students can't see directly, we provide below information about areas directly related to students.

Location

Center for Information Technologies and Networks is located near the center of campus, next to the library.

Unified-account

These are the user ID and password required to use various systems inside the University. New students will receive a written "Uniform Account Notification" in the form of future guidance. We recommend setting a "password reminder" to remember your password. If you have not set up a password reminder, you can refer to your initial password at the "Service Terminal" located at our Center.

Student Email System

We issue email addresses to all students (based on Google's Gmail). The email address will be "student ID number@m.mie-u.ac.jp". This will be used as your official email address for various announcements. A unified account is required for use. It is convenient to forward the email to your mobile phone or set it up in your smartphone's email app.

Cloud Service

We provide Google Workspace, a cloud service by Google, and Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, a cloud service by Microsoft, as services exclusive to our university. Both can be used both on and off-campus with a unified account. *Student email is part of Mie University Google Workspace.

Research Software

All members of this university can use Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise. This includes the Office suite of products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, OneNote, Outlook, and Publisher. In addition to Office, we provide specialized software for research needs in our laboratories, such as SAS, SPSS, MATLAB, Mathematica, and SolidWorks. We also offer Minecraft Education Edition.

Mobile LAN

Mobile LAN is a wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) network for connecting personal computers and other devices. It covers most classrooms on campus. It can also be used in public spaces such as libraries, the Environment and Information Science Museum, the Co-op (cafeteria), Ministop, lecture halls, gymnasiums, and club buildings. For more information on how to connect, please refer to our Center's website.

Education LAN

Some of the computers in computer classrooms owned by departments and faculties, as well as computers in public spaces, are connected to the education LAN. You can use them by logging in with your unified account on a dedicated authentication page.

Mobile Information Guide System

We post information on class cancellations and various announcements. You can access it from your smartphone, mobile phone or home computer. It is also displayed on the campus electronic bulletin board at the same time.
<Note>
Not all information is posted, so please check the bulletin boards of your faculty and department.

If you are accessing from a smartphone/mobile phone or computer, enter "https://k.cc.mie-u.ac.jp" or please access from the our Center homepage.

Secure VPN Connection Service

This service allows you to connect to the campus network from home or other locations. Some of the systems on campus are "restricted to campus," meaning that they can only be accessed from computers on campus. This service allows you to safely access those systems from home or other off-campus locations.

DS Seminar, IT Seminar

Center for Information Technologies and Networks, in cooperation with Organization for Information Education and Research and Information Education Specialist Committee, holds data science open seminars (DS seminars) to provide faculty and students with opportunities to learn about the latest topics in data science and DX. Please participate if you find a seminar that interests you.
Our Center also offers workshops on cutting-edge information technology and hands-on workshops on how to use software used in research buildings. Please participate if you find a lecture or workshop that interests you..

Using Printers

Center for Information Technologies and Networks provides printers that can be used to print from a personal computer. Printers are installed in our Center, the library, and the CeMDS (Center for Mathematical and Data Science). For more information on how to use the printers, please refer to our Center website. Printing is based on a point system. New students will receive 100 points at the time of admission. Additional points are chargeable.

Website Service

Center for Information Technologies and Networks provides a website service that allows you to create a website using WordPress, or to freely create layouts with static pages. Please feel free to use it for creating a website for your club, etc.

Center for Mathematical and Data Science (CeMDS)

The CeMDS (Mathematics and Data Science Center) was newly opened in April 2020 with the aim of contributing to the development of ICT education, mathematics and data science education, and becoming an educational and research base for related organizations to contribute to regional development. The first floor has a makerspace equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters, VR devices, etc., which can be freely used.

Support Desk

The CeMDS 1st floor support desk provides consultations on ICT (information and communication technology) related to university life. (Examples: how to set up a computer, how to use smartphones and the cloud, information security, etc.) Let's use the university's information environment to enjoyably and safely use ICT for tasks such as writing reports and papers, selecting information, and communicating with others. Consultations are available in person or online.
