Center for Information Technologies and Networks Introduction

Center for Information Technologies and Networks plans, designs, manages and operates networks of University, information systems, and so on.
Though we are working a lot places where students can't see directly, we provide below information about areas directly related to students.

Location

Our Center is located almost in the center of the campus, next to the library, and Center for Mathematical and Data Sciences (CeMDS) is located next to the Common Education Building 1.

IT Commons

Our center has a free space for self-study and group work called the IT Commons.
Some desks are equipped with power outlets so you can charge your PC or smartphone.
A large display is also available for students to connect their PCs and practice presentations.

Unified-account

User IDs and passwords are required to use the various systems. New students will receive a “Unified Account Notice” in writing at future guidance sessions.
We recommend that you set up a “Password Reminder” to remind you of your password.
If you have not set a password reminder, you can refer to your initial password at the “Service Terminal” located in Center for Information Technologies and Networks.

Student Email System

All students are issued an email address (based on Google's Gmail).
The email address will be “{Student ID}@m.mie-u.ac.jp”.
It will be used for various notifications as an official email address.
A unified account is required to use this service.
It is convenient to forward the e-mail address to your cell phone or set it up on your smartphone's e-mail application.

Mobile LAN

Mobile LAN is a wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) network for connecting bring-your-own computers and other devices.
It covers most classrooms on campus.
It is also available in public spaces such as the library, Environment and Information Science Building, Co-op (cafeteria), Mini Stop, auditorium, gymnasium, and circle buildings.
A unified account is required for connection.

Secure VPN Connection Service

This service allows you to connect to the campus network from home or other locations.
Some of the systems on campus are “campus restricted” and can only be accessed from computers on campus.
This service allows you to securely access such systems from off-campus locations such as your home.

Using Printers

All students can print from your own PC using the printers provided by Center for Information Technologies and Networks.
Printers are available at Center for Information Technologies and Networks, the Library, and the Mathematical and Data Science Building.
Printing is based on a point system, and the first 100 points are given at the time of enrollment.

Large Format Printer Output Service

This service allows you to request the printing of large posters such as A0 using points for printing.
This service can be used for club activities, posters for presentations, etc.

We also provide research software such as SPSS, Matlab, Mathematica, SolidWorks, etc. to laboratories on campus.

WordPress and Website Services

Our center provides a website service that allows you to set up a website using WordPress, or to create a static page layout freely.
Please make use of this service to create a website for your circle.

Center for Mathematical and Data Science (CeMDS)

On the first floor, there is a makerspace with equipment necessary for research, such as 3D printers, laser cutting machines, VR goggles, and drones.
Students and faculty can freely use these.
In addition, there is a lecture room on the second floor that can accommodate up to 50 people.

Support Desk

The Support Desk, a consultation service for ICT (Information and Communication Technology) related issues in university life, is available at Center for Information Technologies and Networks and CeMDS. (e.g., how to set up your computer, how to use smartphones and the cloud, information security, etc.)
Take advantage of the university's information environment to enjoyably and safely use ICT in writing reports and papers, selecting and choosing information, communicating with others, etc.
Our center and CeMDS differ in the content and time available, so please refer to website of Center for Information Technologies and Networks for details.
