About making the laptop a essential equipment.

As part of our information education, we offer many classes that use computers. In university life, you will need to use a computer on a daily basis for tasks such as creating reports and presentation materials, using the internet, self-studying with e-learning, viewing syllabi, and registering for courses. In addition, it is essential to use a computer regularly, including connecting to smartphones and using cloud services, in order to acquire information processing skills during your stay.

At Mie University, personal laptops will be required for all incoming undergraduate students. Please prepare or purchase a laptop before you arrive.

  • Recommended laptop specifications vary by department. Please check with your specific department for details.
  • Students who already own a suitable laptop are not required to purchase a new one.
  • The university will loan laptops for a limited period, free of charge, to students facing financial hardship who meet specific criteria.

[How to use the essential computer]

The following tasks must be completed before the start of classes.

  • Set up your computer's operating system (Windows or macOS) by logging in and making it available for use.
  • Install Microsoft Office (see this document for instructions).
  • Configure your wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) settings (see this document for instructions).

In addition, our university has implemented the learning management system "Moodle" and educational institution services (Microsoft Office 365, Google Workspace). We are also working to create an environment for using laptops, including connecting to smartphones. For more information, please refer to the website of the Center for Information Technologies and Networks.

About installing Microsoft Office

Students of this university can install and use Microsoft Office (Office 365 ProPlus version) on their personal computers. This is limited to the period of enrollment.

[For those who purchased the Mie University Co-op PC]

Please check the setup text that comes with your computer and proceed with the preparation for acquiring and using Office. If you have any questions, please contact the Mie University Co-op.

[For those who have entered graduate school or doctoral course from our undergraduate school]

Because the student number changes in graduate school and doctoral programs, it is necessary to reinstall with a new unified account.
