Abstract

This paper's objective is to reveal the detailed picture regarding e-Learning, its influence on the educational environment, and in what ways it can support English language learning, especially in Japanese high schools. To realize authentic language usage, meaningful input and a basic knowledge of the language is indispensable. To teach communicative English, many SELHis, as pilot projects, have practiced collaboration with other schools over the Internet. Using WBT, incorporating authentic language use, students can learn and reinforce their knowledge for English communication. They can also enjoy the benefits from being able to study in and out of class at school and home. This seems to be one of the best ways to support students in gaining communicative language proficiency.
